Qualcomm Announces XR1 Platform : The First Chip Dedicated to Augumented Reality and Virtual Reality

Qualcomm’s processors have ended up in plenty of AR and VR devices over the past couple years. But to date, none of those chips have been fully dedicated to augmented and virtual reality — they’ve just been repurposed phone processors.

That changes today with the introduction of the XR1, Qualcomm’s first chip made specifically for AR and VR devices. The chip is supposed to make it somewhat cheaper for companies to build entry-level versions of augmented and virtual reality gadgets, the first of which are expected to start appearing at the end of this year or in early 2019.

Though Qualcomm getting into the AR / VR chip game could be very exciting for the industry, this first chip isn’t all that thrilling on its own. Qualcomm says its current flagship phone processor, the Snapdragon 845, is still a better choice for AR and VR. The XR1 is built for simpler devices, meant more for videos and passive experiences than gaming.

Qualcomm describes XR1 gadgets as being made for “lean back and 360 viewing” of videos, rather than “room scale tracking,” and equipped with “simple controllers,” rather than hand-tracking abilities. That said, the chip is still supposed to be capable of supporting 4K displays at 60 fps, voice activation, and controllers that detect movement with six degrees of freedom.

Where this will really get interesting is if Qualcomm eventually decides to build higher-end chips in the XR line. By using dedicated hardware, it should be able to support more powerful VR- and AR-specific features than it could with a general purpose chip — similar to what it’s doing with camera chips. The XR1 starts it down that path, but Qualcomm seems to be taking a slower start to see if the market is really ready for all these mixed reality headsets.

Tesla Is Putting Question Mark In Front Of Self-Driving Cars !!

Police in Laguna Beach, California, say a Tesla Model S crashed into a parked patrol car. The driver, who suffered minor injuries, told investigators Autopilot was engaged at the time of the accident.


Local news channel ABC7 reports the incident happened on the morning of May 29 on Laguna Canyon Road. Though the investigation is ongoing, the first police officers who arrived at the scene noted the force of the impact pushed the Ford Explorer over the sidewalk. Both cars sustained a substantial amount of damage; police declared the patrol car a total loss. Luckily, it was unoccupied at the time of the impact.


We don’t know exactly what happened or how fast the Tesla was driving. The investigation will reveal whether Autopilot malfunctioned, or if this represents yet another case of technology-aided distracted driving. Police sergeant Jim Cota noted the crash happened in the same spot a Tesla collided with a semi last year.





“Why do these vehicles keep doing that? We’re just lucky people aren’t getting injured,” Cota told the Los Angeles Times.


Tesla hasn’t commented on the cause of the crash. We imagine that will soon change. Company co-founder and CEO Elon Musk recently criticized members of the media for covering accidents involving Tesla’s vehicles. Speaking during a conference call, he explained he’s tired of the bad press and pledged to release quarterly safety reports to persuade drivers and journalists that the system makes driving safer, not more dangerous. The company nonetheless acknowledges some drivers use Autopilot improperly on a regular basis.


“When using Autopilot, drivers are continuously reminded of their responsibility to keep their hands on the wheel and maintain control of the vehicle at all times. Tesla has always been clear that Autopilot doesn’t make the car impervious to all accidents, and before a driver can use Autopilot, they must accept a dialogue box which states that ‘Autopilot is designed for use on highways that have a center divider and clear lane markings,'” a Tesla spokesperson told Digital Trends.


The accident is the latest in a surprisingly long string of Autopilot-related crashes this year. Earlier in May, a 28-year old woman suffered a broken ankle when her Tesla Model S slammed into the back of a fire truck parked at a light on the outskirts of Salt Lake City. Reviewing the vehicle’s logs revealed she had Autopilot turned on but used the system improperly because she regularly took her hands off the steering wheel. She admitted she was looking at her phone before the impact.


In March, the 38-year old driver of a Model X died after his crossover drove into a concrete divider on Highway 101 in Mountain View, California. He had engaged Autopilot, but he took his hands off the steering wheel moments before the collision. In January, another Model S rear-ended a fire engine at 65 mph in Culver City, California. The driver blamed Autopilot; the investigation into the crash remains open.

IGI Airport Delhi to Get India's First AI Robot 'RADA' to Assist Flyers, Courtesy Vistara

Come July and passengers of full service carrier Vistara will be assisted by a robot at its lounge in IGI airport here, helping them address their queries, scanning boarding passes and providing flight status and weather conditions of the destination city.


Capable of moving around in a predefined pathways. the robot named 'RADA' will also greet customers and interact with them using basic hand movements. Additionally, it can engage with kids and adults by playing games and other multimedia content such as songs and videos, said a statement issued by the airline.


 The robot will be placed at Vistara's Signature Lounge at Delhi Airport's Terminal 3 from July 5, it said. It will be further developed over a period of time in terms of functionality and features for future use cases, after gauging customer feedback. The robot has been envisioned and incubated under Vistara's Innovation initiative.


It is conceived, designed and engineered by its team of technology experts and apprentices from Tata Innovation Lab with support from students of reputed institutions. The statement claimed 'RADA' is one of India's most economical robots completely made of indigenous components and a compelling ‘Make in India' story.


The robot is built on a chassis of four wheels, enabling it to rotate 360 degrees, and has three in-built cameras for cognitive interaction. Combining these components with an effective voice technology, Vistara has developed the robot to provide a simple solution to cater to the emerging and future trends, the statement said.


"With RADA, we aim to change the way people interact and fly with an airline. We will be developing ‘RADA' based on customer feedback and equipping it with the most effective features in the time to come. "Our steadfast focus remains to be on delighting customers across all touchpoints, and we're confident that ‘RADA' will help us take the ‘new feeling' to the next level,” said Vistara's Chief Executive Officer, Mr. Leslie Thng.


Vistara is a joint venture between Tata Sons Limited and Singapore Airlines Limited (SIA) with the Indian company holding majority stake of 51 per cent. The airline began operations on June 9, 2015 and at present has a fleet strength of 20 aircraft.

Xiaomi Is Ready to Launch Mi 8

Chinese smartphone-maker Xiaomi is all set to launch its latest flagship device, the Mi 8, MIUI 10 and the Mi Band 3 at its eighth annual event in China on 30 May and ahead of the launch, some images of the Mi 8, Mi 8 SE have surfaced online.



After Mi 6, Xiaomi has skipped the Mi 7 and it has decided to go with the Mi 8 as this is Xiaomi’s eighth anniversary. Earlier, Xiaomi was expected to launch only the Mi 8 at the event, but leaked press images have revealed that the company will also launch a Special Edition Mi 8 dubbed as Mi 8 SE.


Xiaomi had earlier revealed that the Mi 8 will be powered by the Snapdragon 845 SoC and the Mi 8 SE is expected to be powered by the Snapdragon 710 SoC. The image has also revealed that both the device will feature notch displays and the Mi 8 SE will feature a smaller display compared to the Mi 8.


Additionally, promo images of the Xiaomi Mi 8 have been spotted on Slashleaks, revealing the design and some features of the device. The image reveals the notch display, bottom chin, AI dual rear camera setup and the fingerprint sensor at the back.


Xiaomi has posted an image on Twitter with the Mi logo in the middle which is surrounded by eight images of landmarks from eight different countries. These landmarks are placed in an ‘8’, hinting that these are the countries where the Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE may be launched.


The eight counties include India, Egypt, Spain, Russia, France, Vietnam, Thailand and Italy. While China is not mentioned in this image, the devices will be launched in China initially and then make their way to other countries. Xiaomi has scheduled an event in India on 7 June and it is expected to launch the Redmi Y2 at the event.


The Xiaomi Mi 8 and Mi 8 SE will both feature a notch display and dual rear cameras. The Mi 8 retail box had revealed that the device will have 3D face recognition and 3D AR emojis like iPhone X’s Animoji. A teaser posted on Weibo by the company’s official account has teased the Animoji-like feature from Xiaomi, revealing characters such as Xiaomi’s official mascot, a fox, a pig and a panda singing the company’s tune.

Vivo Is Coming Soon in India with Its new Under-Display Fingerprint Scanner Smartphone

Vivo X21 has been launched in India at an event in New Delhi on Tuesday. The smartphone's biggest highlight is of course its under-display fingerprint sensor (aka in-display fingerprint scanner), making it amongst the first production smartphones to offer the feature. Other highlights of the Vivo X21 include its Android 8.1 Oreo-based operating system, and its 6.28-inch full-HD+ Super AMOLED display that is accompanied by a display notch containing the front facing sensors like the selfie camera and proximity sensor. The Vivo X21 is exclusive to Flipkart in India. It will compete with the likes of OnePlus 6 and Honor 10 in the Indian market.

To recall, the smartphone had first been launched by Vivo in China in March this year in two variants - the X21 and X21 UD - with the latter variant the one that sported the under-display fingerprint sensor. In India however, the Chinese company has decided to launch the X21 UD variant as the X21 itself. It is also among the first smartphones to be eligible for the Android P Beta (Developer Preview 2) that was released by Google at its I/O 2018 developer conference earlier this month. The Vivo X21 last week went up for pre-bookings ahead of the India launch.

The Vivo X21 price in India has been set at Rs.35,990, and it will go on sale from Tuesday itself. At this price, the smartphone competes with the Honor 10 and OnePlus 6. As we mentioned previously, the smartphone is exclusive to Flipkart, and the e-commerce site had already detailed the Vivo X21 launch offers ahead of its launch in the country. It will be available in Black and Gold colour options in India, with the Gold variant due to arrive later.

Lenovo Is Going to Launch Its New Flagship Smartphone in This Month

Lenovo has confirmed that it will introduce its flagship Z5 smartphone with bezel-less display at an event in Beijing on June 5th. The company's CEO already confirmed that the phone has 18 patented technologies implemented, and the phone will have AI-powerful dual rear cameras, however he busted the rumors that said that it will have an in-display fingerprint scanner.



According to earlier rumors, the phone will have over 95% screen-to-body ratio , powered by Snapdragon 845 SoC, and a large battery with support for fast charging, up to 45 days standby time and allow the users to talk for half an hour even with 0% battery. It is also expected to come with 4TB of  cloud storage, as hinted by  the CEO.



The design hints at a metal frame, but it is not clear if it will have a unibody metal design or a glass back. We should know all the details when the phone goes official.

Apple Is Now Preparing Themselves for Revealing Their First Ever Self Driving Vehicles

Apple Inc. has signed a deal to turn some of Volkswagen AG's  new T6 Transporter vans into self-driving shuttles for its employees, according to the New York Times.

The iPhone maker has reportedly been working on a shuttle program since last summer. Three sources told the Times that the project, which requires Apple to install its own self-driving software in Volkswagen vehicles, is behind schedule and “consuming nearly all of the Apple car team's attention.”

Dwindling Aspirations
Apple’s deal with the iconic German brand reflects a change in course for the Cupertino, California-based company’s self-driving vehicle aspirations. Initially, Apple wanted to build its own all-electric autonomous vehicle. Judging by this announcement, the company has now settled on building software to license out to more experienced automakers.

In previous years, Apple sought to partner with the likes of BMW AG (BMWYY) and Daimler AG’s (DDAIF) Mercedes-Benz to develop an all-electric, self-driving car, five people familiar with the negotiations told the Times. However, no deal was ever completed because Apple was asking potential candidates to hand over control of data and design.

Last June, CEO Tim Cook hinted that Apple had lowered its aspirations, telling Bloomberg that the company had switched its attention to “focusing on autonomous systems.” Five former Apple employees have now told the Times that the company’s self-driving plans have suffered from repeated changes in direction that have damaged morale and led hundreds of employees to leave.

Apple is currently testing several Lexus SUVs equipped with self-driving hardware and software in Cupertino and the surrounding areas as part of its shuttle program. Executives leading the project told Mr. Cook that the shuttle would be completed by the end of 2018. However, that deadline is expected to be missed.  

The Times reported that the project lacks a clear plan beyond the vans and added that is unclear whether Apple’s partnership with Volkswagen will extend beyond the shuttle. (See also: Stock Market Too Optimistic About Self-Driving Adoption: Morgan Stanley.)


iPhone 6 was weaker than the any other previous iPhones Apple had ever launched.

The world famous company Apple's sudden leak of the internal documents reveals that iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 plus was more likely to bend than any other models Apple had ever made. 

According to the court documents, the iPhone 6 was 3.3 times more likely to bend than iPhone 5S , while the iPhone 6 plus was 7.2 times more.



Back in 2014 , the iPhone using world engaged in a vast controversy known as , 'bendgate', alleging that the recently released iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus were bending in the people's pocket due to poor design of Apple. Although at that time Apple claims that "bend iPhones are extremely rare".

Things escalated when many people faced "touch problem" in the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. The problem is due to the damage of the touch chip present on the motherboard due to bends. Apple said that issue was a symptom of phones that were "dropped multiple times on a hard surface and then incurring further stress on the device".

According to the report, Apple then began to make internal changes in iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus design, adding extra epoxy to strengthen the area underneath that chip in May, 2016, despite that Apple still refused to publicly acknowledge that there were any iPhone 6 bend issues.

LG G7 ThinQ

The Korean giant electronics manufacture company LG launches their new version in G smartphone lineup, the LG G7 ThinQ.

The LG G7 ThinQ comes with a 6.0 inch touchscreen display with a resolution of 1440 pixels by 3120 pixels.

The LG G7 ThinQ comes with Android 8.0 based on their own custom UI and the smartphone weighs only 162 grams.

The smartphone is powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 octa core processor with the latest Adreno 630 GPU.

This time LG has come forward with a dual rear camera of 16 MP having aperture f/1.6 and 8 MP front facing shooter.

The smartphone comes with 4/6 GB of RAM and 64/128 GB of internal storage which can be extended upto wopping 2 TB.

Xiaomi is planning to launch Mi 8 along with miui 10



After confirming the Mi 8 moniker for the upcoming flagship smartphone model on Tuesday, Xiaomi has announced that they will introduce the next iteration of their proprietary MIUI ROM — MIUI 10 alongside at the event on 31 May. 

Xiaomi has released a teaser on Weibo touting the MIUI 10 to be lightning fast. 

The company kicked off the development earlier this year, where they halted work on MIUI 9 to keep the focus on MIUI 10 stability and system optimisations. They also stated that the MIUI 9 updates are expected to resume after July with MIUI 9.6. 

The announcement was first made at Xiaomi’s annual assembly meeting held on 23 January in China, where Hong Feng, co-founder and VP of Xiaomi, shared details on new ROM.

At the time of MIUI 10 announcement, Hong Feng said that company’s focus this time will be on bringing AI and machine learning features to the next version of their software.

Fonearena reports that the MIUI 10 Global ROM is expected to be customised for Indian users, as they did with the MIUI 9. 

China will be the first country to get the taste of MIUI 10 followed by other big markets like India. The roll out is expected to start sometime in June for China and July or August for Global markets.

Oppo holds the budget segment with it's new subbrand REALME




The Chinese smartphone company Oppo's new sub-brand Realme launches the new Realme 1 in India. Unlike any other time this time Oppo has done a very good job by providing very good specs at a very lower price. It has a very attractive glass back with some interesting pattern. It comes with Mediatek's Helio P60, which is a very good chip considering all the aspects. The processor also supports 4G dual standby, better photographs and an efficient performance because of it's 12nm fabrication technology. The Realme 1 wil be sold via Amazon India and it is priced at Rs. 8990(3/32 GB) and Rs. 13,990(6/128 GB). At this price segment it will compete with Asus's beast mid-ranger Asus Zenfone Max Pro M1. Only the drawback of this Realme  1 is that it doesn't come with any fingerprint scanner. Like the Apple's 2017 famous flagship iPhone X , it does provide only face scanning technology. At this price due to lack of very pricy hardwares the company uses software tweaks for face scanning. For this the security would be question mark. But overall this Realme 1 will be the phone to which the Indians look forward.

The China based company Oneplus launches their first notched device the Oneplus 6. Like previous years this year also the company launches at a very aggressive price. The target of the company is to provide the flagship grade performance without compromising anything. Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 700 series Chips for Premium Mid-range Smartphones
